One thing I love with generative art, is that it opens the field of possibilities.
As the code evolves, the possibilities too. Most of the time when I work on a creative algorithm I have an “exploration phase”, where I spend some time implementing controls (in the shapes of buttons, sliders; as you will see later in this article) and spend few minutes (or hours) a day playing with them.
This way, new unexpected variations become visible and new ideas strike.

And that’s how, during the iteration process, “Creatures” revealed itself.
At one point I started to see some animals pattern, that reminded me a cat, a tiger or magical creatures.

This artwork, created in January for the Genuary event, led to “Creatures”.

Made in Javascript and using Canvas, it could be slow to generate when adding more details. I decided to start from scratch using a more performant algorithm thanks to WebGL.

If you are interested about the behind the scene, please have a look at the article I published on substack.

Each artwork is an accumulations of millions lines that have their own orientation and colors.
There is multiple tiny details that will make each variation unique.

Some movement are dynamic and messy, like this iteration, that reminds me a huge peacock.

Some will be more organized, remembering easily animals furs.

Make your own interpretation of each artwork.
